The Sun appears to rise in the east due to Earth's rotation¹. Earth spins on its axis² from west to east (counterclockwise when viewed from above the North Pole). As Earth rotates, different parts of the planet face the Sun, creating the illusion of the Sun "rising" in the east and "setting" in the west. This daily motion is a result of our perspective as observers on a rotating planet.
