Up to 17 people were killed and some 57 others wounded in a series of bomb attacks in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad on Sunday, a police source said.
The deadliest attack occurred in the afternoon when two car bombs went off at a marketplace in Shaab district in the northeastern part of Baghdad, killing1 a total of nine people and wounding 28 others, the source told Xinhua.
Another car bomb detonated at a marketplace in Jamila district in eastern the capital, killing four civilians3 and wounding 12 others, the source said.
A fourth car bomb exploded at a busy intersection5" target="_blank">intersection4 of al- Khillani in downtown Baghdad, leaving a civilian2 dead and five others wounded, the source added.
Two more roadside bombs exploded separately at the busy commercial areas of Maidan and Souq al-Arabi in downtown Baghdad, killing three people and wounding 12 others, the source added.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the deadly attacks, but the al-Qaida front in Iraq, in most cases, were allegedly responsible for such massive attacks in the country, raising fears that the terrorist group and other militia6 could return to widespread violence.
The attacks came as Iraqi security forces and Sunni tribesmen are fighting al-Qaida militants7 in the cities of Anbar province in western the country.
