Of this world's theatre in which we stay,

My love like the spectator ydly sits

Beholding¹ me that all the pageants² play,

Disguysing diversly my troubled wits.

Sometimes I joy when glad occasion fits,

And mask in myrth lyke to a comedy:

Soone after when my joy to sorrow flits,

I waile and make my woes³ a tragedy.

Yet she, beholding me with constant eye,

Delights not in my merth nor rues⁴ my smart:

But when I laugh she mocks, and when I cry

She laughs and hardens evermore her heart.

What then can move her? if nor merth nor mone,

She is no woman, but a senceless stone.

在我们逗留的这座世界剧院，

我的爱人有如看客闲坐旁观，

她看着我在台上做种种表现，

我的演技穷困只好设法遮掩。

时时会有冲动我也满心喜欢，

恰如喜剧之中快乐面具遮脸；

随即哀哀痛哭喜剧变成悲剧，

欢乐化为悲伤就在转瞬之间。

然而她看我时眼神始终平淡，

我的悲伤喜悦与她毫不相干：

我哭她却发笑我笑她又嘲弄，

她一颗心冰冷简直令人胆寒。

连痛苦与欢乐她都无动于衷，

她不是女人，是没有情感的石头。
