More than 650,000 doses of a vaccine¹ routinely given to newborns in China have been recalled after testing showed they were ineffective.

在被检出无效后，超过65万支我国新生儿常规接种的、预防白喉、百日咳及破伤风的疫苗近日被召回。

The problem with the vaccine, which immunizes against diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus (DPT), was identified after batches² were distributed in Shandong, Hebei and Chongqing. Some doses were administered before the recall.

不合格批次疫苗在问题被发现前已销往山东、河北和重庆。部分不合格疫苗在召回前已被接种。

The DPT vaccines³' titer were substandard, "which might diminish the immunization effect but will not threaten people's health", the China Food and Drug Administration said in a statement.

国家食品药品监管总局在一份声明中表示，百白破疫苗效价指标不合格，“可能影响免疫保护效果，但是对人体安全性没有影响”。

The recall relates to two batches from two companies: Changsheng Biotechnology in Jilin, which sent 252,600 doses to Shandong; and the Wuhan Institute of Biological Products in Hubei, which sent 190,520 doses to Chongqing and 210,000 doses to Hebei.

此次召回涉及两家企业的2批次疫苗：吉林长生生物科技有限公司生产的疫苗252600支，销往山东；湖北武汉生物制品研究所有限责任公司生产的疫苗销往重庆190520支，销往河北210000支。

Investigative teams have been sent to check compliance⁴ at the companies' production bases and will spend six to eight weeks testing the quality of all DPT vaccines.

调查组已被派往涉事企业的生产基地对其合规性进行检查，并将花6-8周时间检验所有百白破疫苗的质量。

The National Health and Family Planning Commission and provincial⁵ health departments have also sent experts to assess stocks of the vaccine to ensure that routine immunization programs continue.
