Ma Dongmin, co-founder and vice-president of Chinese internet giant Baidu, has donated 100 million yuan ($14.5 million) to the University of Science and Technology of China.

近日，中国互联网巨头百度的联合创始人兼副总裁马东敏，向中国科学技术大学捐赠了1亿元人民币（合计1450万美元）。

The money, from Ma's own pocket, will be used to support the university in several areas, including development of the School of the Gifted Young, according to a news release last Sunday.

上周日发布的一份新闻称，这笔以马东敏个人名义捐赠的款项，将用于支持该校在多个领域的发展，包括少年班人才的培养。

The university said it is the largest donation made by any individual in its 60-year history.

中国科学技术大学称，这是该校建校60年以来接受的最大额个人捐款。

Ma was enrolled¹ in the Class of the Gifted Young at USTC -- based in Ma's hometown of Hefei, Anhui province -- in 1985 at age 15.

She went to the United States for further education after five years of undergraduate studies at USTC and gained a PhD.

Ma ranked the ninth richest Chinese women in 2017, with a personal wealth of 28 billion yuan, according to the Hurun Research Institute.
