Alibaba founder¹ Jack² Ma, who once boasted his e-commerce firm would spur the creation of onemillion jobs in America, has rowed back on thoseplans.

阿里巴巴创始人马云曾扬言自己的电子商务公司将在美国创造100万个工作岗位，但近日他已撤销了这些计划。

Citing the ongoing³ trade war between the US andChina, Mr Ma told China's Xinhua news agency: "There is no way to complete the promise."

马云提到了中美贸易战，并向中国新华社透露：“我没有办法完成这个承诺了。”

It follows remarks by Mr Ma at Alibaba's investor⁴ day that the trade tensions could continue fordecades.

此前，马云在阿里巴巴投资日表示，贸易紧张局势可能会持续数十年。

In January 2017, Mr Ma met with US President Donald Trump⁵, outlining a plan to increaseAlibaba's presence in America and strengthen relations between the two countries.

2017年1月，马云会见了美国总统唐纳德·特朗普，概述了加大阿里巴巴在美国的投资并加强两国关系的计划。

Alibaba said access to Chinese customers through its online marketplace would help USbusinesses grow and hire workers -- as many as one million people over five years.

阿里巴巴方面当时称，通过其在线市场接触中国客户，将有助于美国企业发展和雇用工人--人数在五年内可以达到一百万人之多。

However, Mr Ma said the pledge had been based on the idea of strong US-China relations, which have now turned sour.

但马云日前表示，这一承诺是基于巩固的美中关系而作出的，但这种关系现在已经恶化了。

The current situation has already destroyed the original premise⁶, he said. "There is no wayto complete the promise, but we will not stop our efforts and will work hard to promote thehealthy development of Sino-US trade."

他说道：“目前的情况已经破坏了该计划原有的条件。我们没有办法完成承诺，但我们不会停止努力，并将努力促进中美贸易的健康发展。”

He added: "The trade in the world really needs to be perfected, but trade is not a weapon, itcannot be used for war, it should be a propeller⁷ for peace."

他补充称：“世界贸易确实需要完善，但贸易不是武器，它不能用于战争，而应该是和平的推动者。”
