London has banned junk food advertisements on its public transportation1 in an effort to battle the country’s severe obesity2 problems, especially among children. The new restrictions3, implemented4 Monday, were announced by London Mayor Sadiq Khan in November. It will take some time to remove existing posters from bus shelters, taxis, subway and train stations. Images of unhealthy food, including sugary drinks, hamburgers, chocolate bars and salted nuts will no longer appear in any public transportation hub. A spokesperson for the city’s mayor told BBC that the mayor was confident that the new changes would reduce children’s exposure to junk food.
