NASA's Stratospheric Observatory¹ for Infrared² Astronomy (SOFIA) has confirmed, for the first time, water on the sunlit surface of the moon, the agency announced on Monday.

美国国家航空航天局（NASA）10月26日称，其“平流层红外天文台（SOFIA）”首次确认在月球的太阳照射面存在水。

This discovery indicates water may be distributed across the lunar surface, and not limited to cold, shadowed places.

这一发现表明水可能分布在整个月球表面，而不仅限于寒冷、处于阴影的区域。

"We confirmed water on the sunlit surface of the Moon for the 1st time using @SOFIAtelescope. We don't know yet if we can use it as a resource, but learning about water on the Moon is key for our #Artemis exploration plans," NASA Administrator³ Jim Bridenstine tweeted.

NASA局长吉姆·布里登斯廷发布推文称：“SOFIA天文台首次确认月球的太阳照射面存在水，目前尚不清楚是否可以使用，但了解月球上的水是‘阿耳忒弥斯’探月计划的关键。”

SOFIA's follow-up flights will look for water in additional sunlit locations and during different lunar phases to learn more about how the water is produced, stored and moved across the moon.

NASA表示，下一步SOFIA还将在更多有阳光的月球地段以及不同的月相阶段查找水，以进一步了解月球上的水是如何产生、存储和转移的。

The data will add to the work of future moon missions, to create the first water resource maps of the moon for future human space exploration, according to NASA.

SOFIA is a joint project of NASA and the German Aerospace⁴ Center.
