Mantis¹ shrimp², scientifically known as Stomatopoda, are marine³ crustaceans⁴ found in tropical and subtropical oceans. Famous for their vibrant⁵ colors and incredible hunting skills, they’re nicknamed "boxers⁶ of the sea."

Features:

Appearance: Elongated⁷ body with brightly colored shells; some species even fluoresce.

Powerful Strike: Their club-like or spear-like appendages⁸ can strike at speeds up to 80 km/h, smashing shells or aquarium⁹ glass.

Vision: Possess the most complex eyes in nature, detecting polarized light and 12-16 color channels (humans see only 3).

Behavior: Most live in burrows¹⁰ or coral reefs, ambushing¹¹ prey¹² with aggressive tactics.

Fun Facts:

Their strike is strong enough to break human fingers, earning them the diver’s nickname "thumb splitter."

Some species (e.g., "peacock mantis shrimp") are popular in aquariums¹³, while others are eaten as seafood¹⁴ (like Chinese "pissing shrimp").
