A friend of mine claims this happened to a friend of hers:

我的一个朋友告诉我，这件事发生在她的一个朋友的身上。

She had a wedding to go to, and needed a wedding gift. Aha, thought she，I have that monogrammed silver tray² from my wedding that I never use. I’11 just take it to a silversmith and have him remove my monogram¹ and put hers on it. Voila, one cheap wedding present.

她要去参加一个婚礼，需要带一份结婚礼物，她一想，“啊!有了，我结婚的时候收到了一个刻有名字的银盘，我还没有用过，我可以去找银匠，让他磨掉我的名字换上我朋友的名字，就是它了!一个实惠的结婚礼物。”

So she took it to the silversmith and asked him to remove her monogram and put the new one on. The silversmith took a look at the tray，shook his head，and said，.Lady, you can only do this so many times!”

于是她带着银盘去找银匠，问他能不能磨掉上面的名字，换上一个新的。银匠看了看盘子，摇了摇头说:“夫人，你已经这么做了无数次了吧。”
