A man has been awarded monthly social security payments after a court found that his brain tumor¹ was caused by a company-issued cellphone.

Roberto Romeo was given a phone by Telecom Italia, which he used for three hours a day for 15 years in the job. Over time, he developed a non-cancerous tumor and the loss of hearing in one ear.

15年来，罗伯特·罗密欧在工作中每天要使用由意大利电信公司提供的电话长达3个小时。渐渐地，他长了一个良性肿瘤，一只耳朵也失去了听力。

Last Thursday, it emerged a court in the northern city of Ivrea has sided with Romeo, ordering the mobile network giant to pay him up to 7,000 euro a year (around $7,500).

It was the first trial court verdict in the world 'to recognize a link between cellphone use and the development of brain tumor'.

'The norms say intense use is one hour a day,' Romeo said. 'I went well beyond the limits.'

Romeo sued the state social security agency, not Telecom Italia, where he still works. He said he is not against cellphone use, but that consumers should adopt safety measures.

罗密欧起诉的是国家社会保障机构，而不是自己现在所在的公司--意大利电信。他表示，自己并不反对使用手机，只是消费者应该用安全的方式使用。
