LESSON 30 ON INSTINCT 第三十课 凭直觉

Who taught the bird to build her nest, 谁教鸟儿筑巢,

Of wool, and hay, and moss¹? 要用绒毛,粘土和苔藓?

Who taught her how to weave it best, 谁教她如何编制为最好,

And lay the twigs² across? 并将细细的树枝交织在一起?

Who taught the busy bee to fly 谁教忙碌的蜜蜂飞行

Amongst the sweetest flowers; 在那最甜的花丛中；

And lay her store of honey by, 建起她的蜜房,

To eat in winter hours? 为了冬天能有吃的?

Who taught the little ants the way 谁教小小的蚂蚁学会

Their narrow holes to bore, 如何钻出细小的孔洞,

And through the pleasant summer day 在愉快的夏天里

To gather up their store?— 积蓄他们的储备?——

'Twas God who taught them all the way, 是上帝教给它们方法,

And gave their little skill; 也给了它们简单的技能；

And teaches children, when they pray, 当它们打猎时,上帝教会它们的孩子,

To do his holy will. 让它们做他神圣的旨意.
