The region with the highest production of king crab1 (also called Kamchatka crab) is Russia’s Far East, particularly the waters around the Kamchatka Peninsula and the Sea of Okhotsk. Russia accounts for over 90% of the global king crab harvest, with Kamchatka’s cold, pristine2 waters being the primary fishing ground. Smaller-scale fisheries exist in Norway and Alaska (USA), but their output is much lower compared to Russia’s dominance.
