The Netflix insurgency⁸ gained steam, with the subscription⁹ video service racking up 31 nominations for its original programs, led by drama 'House of Cards' and comedy 'Orange Is the New Black.' Just two years ago, Netflix was barely on the radar¹⁰ of the TV Academy. Now, the company seems to have made itself at home with Emmy voters. Much of its roster¹¹ of nominees came from the ensemble¹² cast of 'Orange Is the New Black,' which had 12 nominations, more than any other comedy.

However, none of the premium¹³ channel's dramas have won since 'The Sopranos' in 2007. In hopes of reasserting its clout¹⁴, HBO entered its hit crime show 'True Detective' into the crowded drama field. It was a somewhat controversial move--some observers thought it should be categorized as a miniseries, because the show's cast, storyline and setting will be different next season.
