Fans of VW cars at the show are largely unaware⁶ of the emissions cheating revelations from last year. “I heard that they cheated on some tests in America but I don’t know the details,” says Pu Yi, a car designer from Shenzhen who was at the VW stand to gather details on their latest models.

Visitors to the show are most interested in checking out the latest sport utility vehicles, and some appear unconcerned about car emissions, even though they contribute to smog in many cities.
