Nature photographers have flocked to a small town in Eastern Canada after a huge iceberg1 drifted just off the coast.
The towering iceberg floated into waters just next to Ferryland, Newfoundland, causing bumper-to-bumper traffic as tourists try to get a glimpse of it.
The area is known as "iceberg alley2" due to the arctic blocks that float down every spring.
This particularly huge one is expected to linger off the coast for some time because it looks grounded, Ferryland Mayor Adrian Kavanagh told CTV.
"It's a huge iceberg and it's in so close that people can get a good photograph of it," he said. "It's the biggest one I ever seen around here."
Canadian press reported that there had already been more icebergs3 than normal – with 616 already having moved into the North Atlantic shipping4 lanes compared to 687 by the late-September season's end last year.
Experts said it could be because of uncommonly5 strong winds and possibly global warming.
