China issued five new standards to limit some major pollutants¹, which are expected to cut industrial discharges by more than half.

我国近日发布了限制部分主要污染物的5项新标准，新标准有望使得工业排放量下降一半以上。

The Ministry² of Environmental Protection (MEP) and the General Administration of Quality Supervision³, Inspection⁴ and Quarantine issued the documents, which included emission⁵ caps for ship engines, motorcycles and hybrid⁶ electric cars as well as limits on discharges from caustic⁷ soda and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) industries, the MEP said in a statement Tuesday.

环保部周二发布声明称，该部门与国家质检总局日前发布了上述新标准，内容包括船舶发动机、摩托车、混合动力电动汽车污染物，以及烧碱、聚氯乙烯工业污染物排放限值。

Compared with the current standards, discharges of chemical oxygen demand (COD) in waste water, particulate⁸ matter in exhaust gas, chloroethylene and non-methane hydrocarbon⁹ will be slashed¹⁰ by 77 percent, 51 percent, 72 percent and 58 percent, respectively, under the new standards, the statement said.

声明称，与现行标准相比，根据新标准，废水化学需氧量、废气颗粒物、氯乙烯、非甲烷总烃排放量将分别削减77%、51%、72%、58%。

The statement said the new standards are part of measures to implement¹¹ the action plans on air and water pollution prevention and control.

新标准是贯彻落实大气污染、水污染防治行动计划的部分举措。

They are also expected to stimulate¹² industrial transformation¹³ and upgrading, it said.

该声明指出，这一新标准还有望促进产业转型升级。
