The conglomerate¹ led by China’s richest man is in talks to buy the US studio that stages the Golden Globe Awards for a reported $1bn, the latest in a flurry of moves by Chinese companies to snap up Hollywood assets.

Eldridge Industries said it had agreed to enter into exclusive talks with Wanda Culture Industry — a unit of Wang Jianlin’s Wanda group — with the “goal of finalising a mutually satisfactory transaction” for Dick Clark Productions.

The production company is a mainstay of Hollywood’s self-promotion, staging the Golden Globe Awards and American Music Awards. Both are popular among Chinese audiences.
