The Jack¹ Ma Foundation has pledged to spend at least 300 million yuan in the next decade to staff rural schools with qualified² teachers.

The foundation unveiled its Jack Ma Rural Pre-Service Teacher Initiative, which aims to draw graduates from normal universities to countryside schools on a five-year program.

该基金会日前发布了为期五年、旨在吸引师范大学毕业生到乡村学校任教的“马云乡村师范生”计划。

This is the foundation's third initiative supporting rural education development.

For the first phase, starting Jan 21, the foundation said it will cooperate with universities in Hunan, Sichuan and Jilin as well as Chongqing, and channel 100 graduates to villages in the four regions.

该基金会称，第一阶段将于1月21日启动，届时基金会将与湖南、四川、吉林、重庆的高校合作，将100名毕业生送往这4个地区的村庄。

Each successful applicant³ will receive 100,000 yuan in addition to their salary, it said.

To encourage program fellows to stay in rural schools, the foundation has pledged to provide online and offline refresher courses, and allocate⁴ mentors⁵ to advise on teaching and career development.
