Rumors¹ about a 512GB iPhone option popped up about this same time last year and almost 30% of 9to5Mac readers said “yes” or “probably” to the proposition of whether they’d pay a premium² for 512GB of storage. However, the 2017 iPhone lineup ended up maxing out at 256GB.

This would offer customers a more affordable³ entry point to the flagship iPhones, but could also increase the company’s ASP with five models at or above the iPhone X $999 base price.

As for why spending the extra cash on the huge 512GB storage capacity could be worth it, there are a variety of reasons. Shooting 4K video and burst-mode style photos certainly eat up space quickly. And users who prefer to steer⁴ away from cloud services (iCloud Photo Library, iCloud Music Library, etc.) may lean toward the 512GB option.
