Harteau writes journal-like entries in a tone that is equal parts National Geographic ("The Otavaleño women are easily recognizable by their gold necklaces"), Carlos Castaneda-esque musings on the transcendence of travel ("We walk, we breath, we listen to the magical pitch of our toddlers laugh") and advertorial ("Adam made this board with the help from our friends at Foam-EZ").
But "turkey" the word is a geographic mess—a tribute to the vagaries of colonial trade and conquest.
In July, National Geographic commissioned a similar stretch of pavement in Washington DC, in a brief experiment testing human behaviour.
Such chronic lack of interest is perhaps attributable to: (1) the assumption that Japan is similar in its gender preferences for children to its neighbors because of its geographic proximity and shared Confucius background; and/or (2) the presumption that the Japanese exhibit less or no son preference given its higher level of economic development, thereby making it less appealing to examine.
"We have analyzed big data, including the age, vocation, and geographic distribution collected from over 80 million fans of the micro movie four years ago," says Wei Ming, head of Youku.
